Online retailer Amazon apparently plans its own delivery service, which can also be used by other companies. The new service is a serious competitor to other delivery services.
The service Shipping with Amazon, as he should be called according to insiders, is to be used against payment by other companies. For the time being, however , the service is only available in the USA. In the USA, Amazon already delivers packages via its own logistics network, and this already in 37 cities. However, this delivery option is only available to Amazon and Marketplace providers who send their products via Amazon. However, they can also deposit their products in the warehouses and Amazon then takes care of the shipping.
With Shipping with Amazon, customers who do not use the Amazon warehouses can now send their articles via Amazon. The items are picked up by Shipping-With-Amazon drivers, who deliver them directly to the customers. Thus, marketplace providers can offer fast express delivery via the new delivery service.
So far, instead, Amazon is using traditional delivery services such as FedEx or UPS to deliver to other providers. However, the new in-house delivery service for users should be cheaper than the competition. Whether and how the new service will be expanded is currently unknown. A next step could be to offer the service to customers who do not have an Amazon account and thus expand their own sphere of influence.
But Amazon does not just want to improve the delivery process: Customers should also be able to get their orders faster and more reliably through new programs such as Amazon Flex or Amazon Key. However, on Amazon Flex, where individuals are running Amazon for delivery services, there are currently increasing numbers of delivery courier messages that would have allowed unauthorized access to customers’ homes. Similar incidents had also occurred with Amazon Key
